Exploring Canmore Downtown

Canmore is a quiet mountain village compared to its larger cousins down the road, but it packs a punch in the amenities department. Downtown Canmore offers all you need, with a unique blend of friendly hospitality and a slow enough pace to stop and smell the wildflower garden by the bridge. It is a small town at heart, yes, but its reach assures access to all that one might find in a larger city. Canmore shops compete with Calgary’s, offering uniqueness and creativity from energized local entrepreneurs. Canmore restaurants include a broad menu and world-class chefs, a pleasant surprise for the foodies who come to dine here.

Canmore Downtown Shops

The typical Canmore local can point you in the direction of anything you need in town, with a smile and a friendly recommendation of what to see along the way. Canmore shopping is impressive for a rustic mountain village, and it remains loyal to its heritage, staying out of the rat race and supporting local vendors where possible. Textiles outlets include stores like Wild Goose Trading, specializing in Woolrich products for any occasion. Melodic needs are met by Harvest Moon Acoustics, a one-stop music shop and string instrument haven.

Fulfill any catering and grocery needs at stores like Rusticana Grocery, which is crazy about all things local (including the locally-made chocolate!). Specialty drinks outlets keep you in good spirits no matter the weather. A few of our favourites are the Canmore Tea Company, Canmore Wine Merchants and Rusty’s Downtown Liquor. Need gifts, toys or decor? You’ll find it all in downtown Canmore, including The Tin Box’s funky finds, Kavia Fine Jewellers of Canmore, Armadillo Games and the HiJinx Toy Shop. Browse the stunning selection at Stonewaters Home Elements and wax mystic at Spirit of the Earth with their crystals, books, candles and salt rocks products.

After a quick morning ski trip at the Canmore Nordic Center, grab an early breakfast at the Cornerstone Cafe. Fresh muffins and a large selection of hot beverages should hit the spot. For brunch, visit Chez Francois and try their delicious eggs benedict. A raspberry pancake won’t disappoint either.

Head over to Communitea Cafe for tea or lunch to taste one of their organic menu items, focused mainly on local suppliers. Aroma Mexican gives you the kick you’re searching for while keeping the kids in a safe space so everyone can enjoy their meals. By day, Murietta’s Bar & Grill also offers a fantastic view of the mountain. For finer cuisine try Crazyweed Kitchen, Tapas Restaurant, and The Paintbox Lodge. The Grizzly Paw Pub is the perfect way to end the day, with enviable brews on tap and a belly-warming menu to fill in the gaps. The smoked brisket sandwich is the self-proclaimed star of the food menu, especially paired with one of their four home-brewed signature beers, like the Grumpy Bear Honey Wheat Ale.
