Local Canmore Coffee Shops

Canmore was “discovered” by the world around the time of the 1988 Olympics. This warm and welcoming little mountain town has since become a destination for tourists and locals alike who embrace the outdoors and the town’s authentic Canadian Rockies culture.

In the summer, it’s a mecca for climbers, and in the winter, it offers a plethora of outdoor activities for cross-country skiers, dog sled enthusiasts, snowshoe lovers, and more.

But what if you prefer cozying up with a cup of joe and a good book?

Is Canmore a good town to visit?

It’s much more than “good!”

In fact, Canmore has a thriving café culture, and some of Canada’s most comfy, appealing independent coffee shops. Here are a few of our favourites.

Rave is well-known by the locals, but tourists rarely come across it since it’s off the main strip. If you love freshly roasted coffee, however, it’s worth finding. They start with raw beans and roast in-house. You can even view the roasting equipment from the café via large glass windows.

This is another wonderful café that’s somewhat off the beaten path. It’s located in Canmore’s industrial park. For more than a quarter of a century, this café has worked directly with growers to cultivate unique blends that create a one-of-a-kind Canadian coffee drinking experience.

This gem often goes unnoticed by tourists as well. Not because of its location—it’s right on Main Street—but because to passersby, it looks like nothing more than a bike shop. It is, in fact, a bike shop… but whether you love to ride on two wheels or not, it’s worth a visit.

It has some of the best coffee in Canada. Pull up a stool by the bar at the front of the shop and sip some java while you people watch or chat and bike shop with the staff!

Communitea is known not only for its coffee, but its wonderful food selection, and (as you might guess from the name) its specialty teas. If you’re looking for more than just a cup of joe, and you favour vegetarian meal options, this might just be your best bet. We also highly recommend the turmeric tea, which is difficult to find anywhere else!

The Summit’s coffee may not be the city’s fanciest, but it’s well-loved by locals. What visitors will probably find most appealing is its wonderful (and very affordably priced) breakfast options. It’s also one of the city’s less “touristy” breakfast joints, so if you want to experience an authentic Canmore breakfast, the Summit should be on your list! We recommend the breakfast burrito… and everything else!

This main street attraction has an amazing selection of specialty coffees, wonderfully complemented by their food selections.

If you’re looking for something new and exciting, like a beetroot or turmeric latte, you’ve found the right place!

The shop also has an amazing ambience, friendly staff, and a convenient location!

While this little shop’s fame comes from its baked goods, it’s also one of the best places in Canmore to enjoy coffee. It is an authentic French bakery, so it’s the perfect way to get your baguette fix. If you have a sweet tooth, there’s nowhere better to find decadent pastries. It opens early, which is ideal for those of you who are planning to conquer one of Canmore’s many hiking peaks and need to fuel up early in the day!

This vegetarian friendly café has some of Canmore’s best coffee accompanied by to-die-for muffins. If you aren’t sure what to try, ask about their seasonal coffees—they have a wonderful pumpkin spice latte, and whip up new recipes to showcase their quality coffee all the time.

Huge food portions and a beautiful view are the main selling points of this cozy café. Their coffee is high quality, and they are also known for their excellent service. They’re right along the main street and have a wonderful outdoor patio.

While Canmore might be considered a destination of choice for rugged outdoorsy types, it’s also one of North America’s best places to get a hot cup of coffee.

Whether you’re planning to sip a cup of coffee before your hike, relax with a hot cocoa after, or forego the trails altogether, you certainly won’t be disappointed by this town’s variety of cafés.

These are just a few of them!
