On your trip to Canmore, you might realize that there is so much to do and so little time. If you want to spend every minute in the outdoors, why not take advantage of fun-filled activities in the early morning calm and then top it off with a scrumptious brunch for a well-deserved break?
On the other hand, sleeping in comes highly recommended in the frosty dawn, and a leisurely brunch is even more desirable when you’re finally ready for the first cup of pick-me-up coffee.
Either way, a Canmore brunch is like no other, with views to enthral and delight in an alpine paradise.
Here are our favourite brunch spots in Canmore (in no particular order):
1. Canmore Nordic Center
Canmore restaurants set the bar high in general, and Cornerstone Cafe at the Canmore Nordic Center is an excellent choice for a light brunch on any day. They offer baked goods, muffins, specialty coffees and delicious grilled sandwiches if you need something heartier.
2. Good Earth Café & Bakery
A good restaurant with a fresh food philosophy, this charming cafe stocks a large selection of delicious breakfasts, baked goods, soups, salads, sandwiches and flatbreads. Try their specialty, steel-cut slow-cooked oatmeal - it is the real deal. You can also bite into a Southwest Breakfast Wrap, a Breakfast Panini or fresh fruit salad for a healthy start to the day.
Otherwise one of the extensive selection of bakery items may tempt you to the dark (chocolate) side before you can say praline brownie.
This modern cafe exudes a creative flair and a love for life. They utilize as many fresh, organic ingredients as possible in their offering, specializing in vegan and gluten-free cuisine. Brunch can be healthy, fresh and delicious at the same time.
Try their Big Breakfast Bowl where they “hope to make ‘breakfast salad’ a thing!” At $13.50 it combines scrambled eggs, avocado, quinoa, black beans and chipotle, to mention a few mouth-watering ingredients in the bowl. Top it off with some bacon to make it perfect.
4. The Rocky Mountain Bagel Company
Two locations in Canmore don’t detract from the awesome menu at the Rocky Mountain Bagel Company. Homemade goodness lines the menu, with artisan bagels, rich soups, delicate cream cheese and other sugary treats to complement the locally-roasted coffee.
5. Chez Francois
The premier French restaurant in town, Chez Francois crafts a beautiful brunch menu with Parisian charm. There is an eggs benedict combo (Sweet Bene Combo at $14.99), served with your choice of crêpes for dessert. Try the strawberry and cream cheese or the hazelnut chocolate and banana!
6. The Summit Cafe
A buzzing brunch restaurant in a quieter part of Canmore, there is an excellent view of the Three Sisters and a varied menu. They offer all-day breakfasts and spicy Mexican twists on traditional breakfast dishes. The Breakfast Burrito ($14.95) is a clear favourite, paired with an organic free trade coffee on tap.
7. Where the Buffalo Roam Saloon
A chilled out Wild West ambiance and family-friendly atmosphere, this brunch restaurant has great reviews and boasts loyal customers from all over Canada. Come back later to dip into the selection of amazing cocktails if you don’t want to pair it with your scrumptious Sunday brunch.
8. The Market Bistro
Located at Three Sisters, a cycle ride away from The Courtyard, this French bistro offers a delicious breakfast menu from $7 to $14. The light and airy bistro sets the tone for a perfect dining experience with open kitchen and breathtaking art to complement the view.
9. Chapter 2 Tea Room
The tearoom behind the bookstore is an excellent place to blend into the wallpaper with a selection of tea or even a glass of red or white wine. On your way over, pop into the “nostalgic world of adventure and imagination” at Cafe Books and grab something to fire up your imagination for a couple of hours. They offer a light selection of sweet treats, beverages and snacks.
10. Harvest Cafe
This cafe in central Canmore has huge portion sizes and a wonderful breakfast and brunch selection on top of their main menu. Their philosophy is ‘salad for breakfast, eggs for lunch’ so whatever you feel like is what you should order. Prices range from $7 - $11 for most brunch items.
Drinks on the run
Canmore has so much to do and to see. We completely understand that time for sit-down meals is scarce. Maximize your time and scoot through Beamer’s Coffee or TONIQ for a quick juice. Both places are great for early morning drinks before you hit the snow.
